2017 - 2018 CHORUS AUDITIONS

Singers ages 15 and older are invited to come to the Open Audition for the Naples Orchestra and Chorus on Monday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m. – Pine Ridge Middle School Music Suite. (located at 1515 Pine Ridge Road, Naples)

This is the 25th Anniversary season for the Naples Orchestra and Chorus – and the February 17th and 18th performances will feature the chorus performing works from, the Great American Songbook. This concert will feature works by Aaron Copland Eric Whitaker, Irving Berlin and Bernstein’s beloved “West Side Story”, celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth.

For the March concerts the chorus and orchestra will celebrate “The Marvelous Musicals of MGM” featuring music from favorite films – Kiss Me Kate, Showboat, Gigi and The Wizard of Oz.

We hope that you will join us for this very exciting season and experience the pure joy of singing. Over the past twenty years there has been an increase in community choirs – reinforcing the value of singing and socializing with people of similar interests. There are also scientific studies that show the value of a group of individuals breathing together with synchronized heartbeats. Choruses cross all demographics, economics, ethnicities, political and religious boundaries – and very simply bring people together for the pure joy of singing. There is very little that compares to the delight of creating beauty with music with one’s own voice blended with others. Helping to blend the voices is an excellent accompanist – Kelly Utterbach – she is sought after because of her incredible abilities and musical knowledge – we are thrilled to have her as a part of the Chorus.

Stephen Parker, NOC’s Assistant Director and Choral Conductor , knows firsthand the value of choral music – and stresses that the requirements are that you bring your voice and your heart to the open auditions on December 4th. The requirements for membership are simple – most important – Parker says – “the desire to gather each week and work together: this is the most valuable part of a community choir – the commitment of the members to each other.” There is a very nominal membership fee to help defray the cost of music.
