Since its founding, in 1994, The Naples Orchestra & Chorus has had a scholarship program for high school age students in Collier and Lee Counties. Talented instrumental and voice students are invited to audition and perform in the chorus or orchestra and gain the experience and expertise of trained musicians.
Rehearsing and performing among experienced musicians is an instructive experience, helping students gain proficiency and confidence. No dues are collected from students; in fact, the most deserving students are given small stipends or awards to encourage them to continue their musical studies. Over the last few years the program has been expanded to include middle school, high school and college level students.
The Ralph Stewart Student Scholarships are awarded to NOC students who plan to continue their music education at the college level.
The Naples Orchestra & Chorus will award up to $2,000 in college scholarships during the 2017-18 season.
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency on an orchestra/band instrument or as a vocalist as judged by the NOC Music Committee and Board of Directors. The endorsement of the NOC Music Director is required. A letter of recommendation, by either the student’s private teacher or high school instructor may be required. This program supports the communities we serve by recognizing musical proficiency, awarding scholarships and promoting continued formal study in either vocal or orchestra/band music.
Consideration for scholarship is based on the following:
These limited awards will be in the form of one time amounts determined annually by the Board. Students may reapply to extend any single scholarship award for additional years. Additional awards are determined annually by the NOC Board and are not automatically renewed. The recipient(s) will be announced at the spring of the current concert year.
